In the News: Luigi Bormioli Scores a Nod in The Wall Street Journal

We were delighted to learn that award-winning sommelier Michael Madrigale gave our glasses high marks during the New York Tabletop Show, where chefs, retailers, restaurateurs and sommeliers get a first peek at what’s hot and often decide what’s not.

Winner of coveted Sommelier of the Year awards from Wine Enthusiast and Food & Wine and head sommelier of Bar Boulud, Épicerie Boulud and Boulud Sud, Michael is more than well-versed in the nuances of what makes a wine glass truly spectacular.

We’re honored that he found the “lip” or “chimney” on our new Vinea wine glass outstanding, saying, “It’s almost connected to your body when it’s flared out like that.”

High praise, indeed, and further proof that the glass matters—for every occasion.

We are also humbled that The Wall Street Journal tapped our vice president of the tableware division, Jim Eckert, for this press—who revealed the 411 on our titanium-reinforced stem. “The titanium makes it 140 percent stronger,” Jim noted, in reference to the fact that sommeliers generally carry several glasses at a time, so extra strength at that fragile point is key.
